This page outlines some of the key features of the Geographic Data Hierarchy product. For more information about how you can benefit from integrating our Geographic Data Hierarchy across your organizational platform, please contact your Customer Success or Channel manager.

Geography Data vs Address Verification

The Geographic Data Hierarchy is purposely designed to provide textual names for all regions (up to the smallest regional definition) in every country or territory. It is not intended to provide values or formats required for postal use cases. The Verify product should be used alongside the geography data to yield values in the correct postal format.

Field Name Hierarchy

Following the Oasis aXL standards adopted by Loqate to represent all core global reference data, these fields form the basis of all data in the hierarchy product (going from large to small).
  • SuperAdministrativeArea: Region
    • AdministrativeArea: Province
      • SubAdministrativeArea: Sub Province
        • Locality: District
          • DependentLocality: Municipality
            • DoubleDependentLocality: Barangay

Postcodes

PostalCode is also included in the data, and will be assigned to the highest possible position in the hierarchy. Where a postcode spans multiple Locality values (but resides in the same parent region) the postcode will append to all applicable Locality values. It will not append to any smaller, child regions. Please note that it is possible for postcodes to be present at any level in the hierarchy. For example, postcodes could be at SubAdministrativeArea and Locality levels, depending on how they are laid out by the respective authorities.

Delivery Information

Delivery point information, such as thoroughfares, premise numbers, or building names, are not covered in the hierarchy product.

Localization

In addition to the raw data, an accompanying information schema will indicate which fields are used in the hierarchy and if there is a local designation for each regional boundary. For example: Country: DE (Germany)
  • SuperAdministrativeArea: (not used)
    • AdministrativeArea: Bundesland
      • SubAdministrativeArea: Regierungsbezirk
        • Locality: Gemeinde
          • DependentLocality: Settlement
            • DoubleDependentLocality: (not used)

Delivery

Datasets for all countries and territories are updated and published on a monthly basis and can be delivered monthly or quarterly. Files are delivered by customers via an installer application under the Verify on premise product. A customer can purchase individual countries, regions or all of our global data. The granularity and quality of coverage per country is dependent on the supply of data available to Loqate.
